A Europe-wide solution for maths teachers who use digital technology launched in Scotland
Today sees the launch of new guidance for maths teachers on using digital technology in their classrooms.
The Erasmus+ funded DigiMaths project is culminating in Glasgow with a seminar for educators. The seminar is aimed at teachers in schools, lecturers in colleges and universities, as well as adult learning workers and others with an interest in education. It is being broadcast live across the world using Facebook Live.
The DigiMaths project has brought together leading educators from Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Switzerland and the UK over a two-year period. The educators have visited one another’s countries and observed the use of technology in classrooms. The project has resulted in a brand-new model for teachers to use as they plan their lessons.
Today’s seminar will introduce participants to the powerful “traffic light” model that teachers can apply to any digital technology to work out if it detracts from the maths learning (red), simply substitutes for more traditional methods like pen and paper (amber), or whether it truly adds value to the learning (green).
Jackie Howie, lead officer of Learning Link Scotland, said:
We hope participants will go away enthused and confident to use digital technologies in their teaching. During the project we have realised that teachers across Europe share the same challenges in their teaching. We hope that the DigiMaths traffic light model will give teachers confidence and make a real difference to learners’ attainment in maths and numeracy. Above all, we want to stress that we see Brexit as no barrier to educational collaboration in Europe.
