Fair Work First – July 2023

Learning Link Scotland are currently updating our policies to evidence the provision of appropriate channels for effective workers’ voice in line with the Scottish Government Fair Work First guidance.

Our practice currently demonstrates that the LLS Board of Trustees and management:

  • Pays at least the real Living Wage to all directly employed staff, including those aged 1617 and apprentices
  • Create & maintain processes that give scope to employee voice – for example, we have staff attendance at board meetings and staff meetings with the chair
  • Have formal and informal arrangements to allow dialogue, including one-to-ones between workers and management, appraisal/feedback processes, team/organisation meetings – for example, we have staff attendance at board meetings, staff meetings with the chair, informal weekly meeting between CEO and our one member of staff, formal performance review system in place
  • Have a clear route for resolving issues at both individual and collective levels, such as through a grievance or collective disputes procedure – for example, we have a grievance procedure outlined in the staff handbook
  • The organisation promotes a strong culture of openness and transparency and encourages acceptance of different viewpoints – for example, staff attendance at board meetings, staff meetings with the chair, informal weekly meeting between CEO and member of staff
  • Workers’ experiences are used to influence organisational policy and practice – for example, staff attendance at board meetings, staff meetings with the chair, informal weekly meeting between CEO and member of staff
  • Worker representation on boards is sought and welcomed – for example, staff attendance at board meetings, staff meetings with the chair

Once updated, our policies reflecting Fair Work First criteria, including the real Living Wage and effective voice conditions, will be uploaded.
